ROAD TRIP! California Coast-ish

Cruisin’ USA-  From So. Cal to Nor. Cal
Palm Springs > Santa Barbara > San Francisco

Highway 101

All Nintendo 64 geeks unite.  As you read “Cruisin’ USA”, “Choose Your Car” in that ladies voice immediately went through your mind, or it did mine at least.  Car of choice for this road trip was my White Corolla S, now it’s no spiffy Porsche but it gets the job done.  This road trip had 3 destinations, all with climates the polar opposite of each other, and the good news is I fit my wardrobe for all three trips into my duffel bag, and a shoulder bag.  And the added luxury of a road trip, there’s back seat space, and trunk space so you can throw in those extra pair of shoes if you aren’t taking too many passengers.

The ESSENTIALS for these California adventures were for starters yoga pants accompanied by a many loose, baggy tee for the drive (got to be comfortable and never know when you can get your hike on), bathing suits accompanied by a couple beach towels, a good overcoat accompanied with anything really.  The overcoat is the quintessential jacket of this trip, light enough for desert air that turns chilly, dry enough to throw on over a wet bathing suit after a dip in the spa/pool/ocean, sturdy enough to protect against the Bay area’s whipping winds.

Really quick, I want to share my end of summer WISH LIST- Bathing Suit Edition, so if you do have any last minute summer trips planned, buy these, pack these, love these!

All you jet setters out there, this suit is a no brainer.

While you cruise it, rep it!

Once more, my fellow Nintendo Nerds unite!

The Destinations
Outfit Ideas accompanied with Where to Wear Them

Palm Springs
By Day
Depending on where your driving from, this trip is not too daunting of a task.  You have the Cabazon Outlets for a nice shopping pit stop, you have the Cabazon Dinosaur Exhibit for a fun pit stop, you have Morongo Casino air conditioning blasting with a Ben & Jerry's inside for a yummy pit stop, take your choice or do them all.  Now I swear I own color, but for some reason I packed mainly blacks for Palm Springs, it may be because any color I wore would have completely contrasted with the scenery of the hotel we stayed at (which for me, is half the fun of Palm Springs.  I love me some downtown, but the hotels are prime).

Allow me to introduce the Saguaro Hotel.  The colors were electric and so much FUN!

Packed a sarong, bikini, and threw the pops of color in with the accessories!
And my gorge friends high waisted bottoms (I might have to copy), courtesy American Apparel.
I fully support American Apparel swimwear as I have a one piece myself.

By Night
Shower off the heat, let the hair air dry, and put on some breathable clothes for the desert night's.  This trip, in the dead of summer, temps. stayed in the 90's, so I was dyin' a little bit in the full length romper I chose to pack.  Luckily, it was loose fitting making that choice bearable.

Catch a classic under the desert moon (our feature presentation was Ferris Bueller featuring his day off).

Take a cab and eat dinner at Trio Restaurant!

Again, black was my theme (not on purpose either.  Just how it ended up happening).  Romper from the new Savvy department at Nordstrom.

Santa Barbara
No colorful hotel here, just a local resident that allocated room for me in his home (he better, he's my brother).  Exit State Street, visit Juice Ranch and get yourself a refreshing juice (my choice: watermelon, mint, lemon and chia seeds).  Exit for Isla Vista and prepare to dodge student bikers, glass on the ground from smashed TV's curbside and indulge in the best bagels and burritos (not together, let's say breakfast and lunch).  Exit for the Santa Barbara Mission for a quick history lesson, or an "aha!" moment if you ever had to build a mission as a rite of passage in elementary school and this was your chosen mission (mine!)

I think my exact words were "shut" and "up" when I saw this shirt.  Purchased, duh!  I feel like a shout out to Jurassic Park might have to become a theme for each post.  Visit Isla Vista Screen Printing when checking out UCSB's famed neighborhood, and pick out a sweet tee from a variety of different designs.  (And side note: not a Red Sox fan, just a Boston enthusiast).

Pit Stop: pier jumping, pack a swimsuit, and a GoPro.  There ya go.

When you forget your dutiful overcoat in the car, wrap that towel girl, makeshift cover up.

San Francisco
Bayyy Areaaa!  I am blessed to have another local who lives right outside San Fran in the town of Belmont.  And Belmont is also blessed with the best little sandwich shop, Mr. Pickles Sandwich Shop (let's bring those Dutch Crunch bread rolls down south).  Took a 20 minute drive from Belmont to San Fran, not without seeing The Flintstone House first from Interstate 280.

Walking across the Golden Gate Bridge.  This is the point in the trip the bathing suits get buried, and the leather jackets and leggings get their time to shine.

Close up of my Forever 21 leggings. (still available for purchase, part of the Super Hero collection).  I got a few approving head nod's, some "right on's", and "cool pants", thanks for noticing!

Per some of my friend's requests, I searched the San Franciscan streets for Uncle Jesse from Full House, and Mrs. Doubtfire, unfortunately all to no avail.

Atop Twin Peaks, this overlooks the entire city of San Francisco.  And the overcoat, this green is clearly a good idea seeing that we're 4 for 4 in choosing it.

The view minus us photo bombers.

All in all, these mini vacays made me appreciate my home state that much more.  I even said upon seeing the Golden Gate Bridge, "this is the Eiffel Tower of California".  You don't need to always jump on a jet to see wonders of this world, just look what is around you.  While still packing accordingly, of course.  And giving God the glory!
